Dominic Steele asks Dr Gary Hoag - What’s your word to the pastor who has a big prosperity church down the road doing flashy ministry?

Gary Hoag, also known as the Generosity Monk, says that the Prosperity Gospel is a different gospel. It is not good news. He argues that seminaries have not done a good job on teaching about money and outlines some of the big errors:

• Prosperity - Taking Old Testament promises out of context.
• Slavery - Sending people back to slavery by teaching the tithe.
• Culturally - If your message sounds good culturally it’s probably another gospel.

Hoag suggests that, instead, what we need to pursue is the Spirit’s fruit of generosity, and the fruit will then take care of itself. Not only should you not care what the humans think. You can’t care. You are playing to an audience of one.
