Keswick '19 - John Risbridger 1: Thirsty - Longing for God
Psalm 63. Part of the series 'Songs of the longing heart'. God is deeply interested in our hearts. The things we most long for shape profoundly the direction of our lives and the priorities we pursue. However, many of our deepest longings sit inside us largely unnoticed and unexamined, forming the emotional and motivational architecture of our hearts. That is why the Bible speaks to our hearts so frequently, calling us to bring our longings increasingly into line with the things that God longs for us. That is also why it is important that we sometimes slow down enough to move beyond the surface issues of behaviour and listen to the music of our hearts to see where it is in tune with God – and where it isn’t. That is the aim of our week together in the Psalms, as we learn to sing the Bible’s own songs of desire and to have them tune our hearts to the symphony of God.
