Keswick '13 - John Lennox 1: In the Beginning
Genesis 1-3 - The main talks from the Keswick Convention 2013. The book of Genesis is foundational for the story-line of the Bible. We shall follow it as it lays the groundwork for our understanding of God, the created universe and ourselves as human beings created in his image. We shall be particularly interested in the way in which Genesis reveals the nature and being of God and by so doing corrects popular misunderstandings and gives answers to objections that are increasingly made by atheists. We shall not shy away from difficulties of interpretations that thoughtful people have raised when reading Genesis - including the question of the days. We shall consider God as Creator and how the universe reflects his glory. We shall think of human beings as the pinnacle of God's creation and will study the light that Genesis throws on the meaning of human life in all its mutliple facets - capacity to enjoy food and beauty, the significance of work, morality and relationships both among humans and between humans and God. We shall use many passages in the New Testament to illuminate what Genesis has to say to us today.
