The Keswick Lectures '12 - Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide
John Wyatt - Do We Have a Right to die? There are increasingly strident calls for a change in the law to allow doctors to assist the suicide of their patients. If a person suffering unbearable pain or hopeless despair makes a rational choice to die, why should we not assist them? How should Christians respond to these painful challenges? John Wyatt, a Neonatal pediatrician offers a biblical alternative to euthanasia in response to aging and suffering. Wyatt warmly reorients our thinking on what can be a seen as a degrading process of aging and shows how dying well can be a great opportunity. Whilst there are no neat answers to complex questions, Wyatt points to the incarnation and the cross where Jesus, the creator of the universe, entered our broken world as a vulnerable, dependent baby and endured our pain.
