Keswick '19 - Vaughan Roberts 1: Better than Wine

Song of Songs 1: 1 - 2: 7. The beauty of the Song of Songs, with its description of the romantic love of a man and a woman, has long delighted and intrigued Bible readers. The sensuous poetry with its powerful imagery draws us in, whatever our relational status, so we identify with the characters, but what is it doing in the Bible? At the very least, it is a book of wisdom, which helps us face the reality of love, loss and longing in this fallen world. But there is surely another level. All our longings point in the end to the ultimate relationship for which we were made, which has now been made possible by Christ, our bridegroom. Rightly understood, Songs will help us grow in knowledge and love of him in this present world, while we wait for the consummation of our relationship with him in the world to come.
