The Bible Project: Mark Overview

The Gospel of Mark is one of the earliest accounts of Jesus' life. Mark was a coworker of the Apostles Paul and Peter and his book is based on the eyewitness testimony that Peter provided. His account divides into three acts: Act 1 is Jesus in Galilee, Act 3 is Jesus in Jerusalem and Act 2 is Jesus on the way from one place to the other. Mark's intention is to present to us Jesus' words and deeds, and also people's responses to him, and to allow us to reach the same conclusion as him: that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God (Mark 1: 1).
