Summary: Modern skeptics challenge that the New Testament is not an assembly of the true Scriptures, but reflect the spoils of victory for one group of beliefs that triumphed over others. The Nicene Creed, written during the First Council of Nicaea in 325 AD, expresses core orthodox beliefs that were based upon Old Testament writings. It is an affirmation of the teaching of the earliest doctrine in the Church. As the earliest church grew the apostles and the leaders recognized that the return of Jesus was not as imminent as they initially thought they started putting into writing their recollections and teachings. All of these writings became important as the church moved from the time of the apostles and faced heretical teachings.
