Mark Lanier: Church History Course 1 - Setting the Stage
Talks on church history during the first few centuries after Christ. Find out about the canon, the creeds, and how the early fathers found biblical answers to heresy.
Summary: 'Why study church history?' i) Church history is a study of scripture and theology- the content of the 'canon' and the historical meaning of scripture. ii) the more we understand our roots, the more we can identify matters of faith as opposed to matters of opinion. iii) It will help us understand why different churches “do church” differently. Some churches are “high church;” others aren’t. iv)Any study in church history is also a study in God and the work of Christ. v) We can best understand where we are and what we believe if we understand the historical context in which we live. It will make better sense of what we do and why we do it.
