Looking at John 15:1-11 Francis Chan reminds believers of the simplicity of following Jesus: it is about following the Shepherd and abiding in the Vine. It's about having real joy in knowing Jesus personally, not in knowing a lot about him or appearing to know him. When we're tempted to get stressed and anxious about producing fruit or matching up to other Christians, Chan urges us to rest in Jesus, to go back to the vine and abide in him. As we stay connected to Jesus, the Vine, fruit is automatically produced, by the Father not by our efforts. Chan encourage us that God has given all of his people different gifts, all necessary for building the Church and all for his glory. We're not to compare and to compete, but to use our gifts and to value others to show the world how wonderful is our Lord, our Shepherd, our Vine.
