Keswick '09 - Vaughan Roberts 1: The Fear of the Lord & Wisdom's Character

Proverbs 1:1- 3:12, Proverbs 8 - Wisdom to Steer By - The main talks from the Keswick Convention 2009.Knowledge is good, but wisdom is better. Vaughan shares God’s wisdom for everyday life. Some people are forever getting into trouble and making a mess of their lives, whereas others are able to navigate their way through life without sinking, in both good and bad times. The difference is not a matter of intelligence or natural ability but of wisdom, which is the great theme of the book of Proverbs. Building on the foundation of the fear of the Lord, this book tells us how to ‘do life well’. It is full of practical advice, which does not simply take us to church but helps us to understand how we should live in the diverse worlds of work, home, politics and friendships; in Derek Kidner’s memorable phrase, it ‘puts godliness into working clothes’. The pursuit of wisdom, which is found ultimately in and through Jesus Christ, involves great effort but it is certainly worth it. Proverbs appeals to us: ‘Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding’ (4:7).
