Ask Phillip - The Translation of 'Church'?
What is the translation of the word 'church'? William Tyndale originally translated the Greek word "ecclesia" in the New Testament, to 'congregation' but it was later changed to 'church'. Jensen argues that this second translation leads to much confusion as 'church' can refer to many things and that Tyndale's original translation was more accurate and helpful in defining what 'ecclesia' is and should do: simply ' a gathering' and in the biblical context, a gathering around Christ to hear from his Word.
