Frequently mentioned, deeply needed and greatly misunderstood, 'tolerance' has become a buzzword in today's world. John Dickson argues that the understanding of toleracnce as 'acceptance of a belief different to your own' is unhelpful and wrong. Instead, he argues, true tolerance involves honesty, discussion and respect. People must talk about their differences with respect and compassion but not be forced to agree or accept another's faith or point of view.
